Abstract:
Provided is a backlight which can prevent degradation of a light emission element and other circuit parts caused by increase of the ambient temperature during a backlight operation. Provided is also a display device using the backlight.
The backlight (8) is arranged on a rear surface of a display unit (2) so as to emit a radiation light to a display unit (2) for displaying an image. The backlight (8) includes: a plurality of light emission elements (9) aligned on a flat plane; a light source drive circuit (27) having a light source control unit (28) which defines a value of drive power applied to each of the light emission elements (9) and a light source driver unit (29) which applies a drive power of the value defined by the light control unit (28) to the light emission elements (9); and a temperature sensor (31) which detects an ambient temperature of the region of the light emission element (9) whose temperature is the highest during operation. When an output value from the temperature sensor (31) exceeds a predetermined threshold value, the light source control unit (28) lowers the drive power applied to the light emission element (9) whose temperature is the highest during operation.
