A BL unit (20) is provided with light sources (4A, 4B) and light-guide plates (2A, 2B). The light source (4A) is positioned on the flank surface of the light-guide plate (2A), and the light source (4B) is positioned on the flank surface of the light-guide plate (2B). The light sources (4A, 4B) are positioned so as to face one another with the light-guide plates (2A, 2B) therebetween, when seen from a planar view. The BL unit (20) is further provided with a light path adjustment member (1) for adjusting the light path of light passing through, and having a light-incident surface (SUF1) on which light projected from the light-guide plate (2A) or the light-guide plate (2B) is directly incident, and a light-projecting surface (SUF2) for directly projecting incident light from the light-incident surface (SUF1) toward an exterior liquid crystal panel (5). As a result, there is no deterioration in display quality even when size is increased, and light having directive luminance characteristics in a plurality of different directions is projected.
