Abstract:
The present invention relates to [1] a bacterial adhesion inhibitor comprising a polymer that has an at least C3 hydrophobic group in side chain terminal position wherein at least either of the main chain and a side chain exhibit hydrophilicity. This polymer satisfies conditions 1 and 2. The present invention also relates to [2] a method for inhibiting bacterial adhesion, comprising a step of carrying out a treatment, using an aqueous solution containing a polymer that has an at least C3 hydrophobic group in side chain terminal position wherein at least either of the main chain and a side chain exhibit hydrophilicity, in order to bring about the physical adhesion of the polymer to the surface of a solid. The polymer satisfies conditions 1 and 2. Condition 1: the ratio (ΔD/ΔF), as determined by measuring, with respect to a polyester-coated quartz crystal oscillator using the quartz crystal oscillator microbalance method, the frequency change ΔF and the energy dissipation change ΔD for a 0.1 mass% solution of the polymer in water with a hardness of 4° dH, is greater than or equal to 0.15 Condition 2: as measured by the captive bubble method, the contact angle in water of the bubble with the polymer is greater than or equal to 120°
