Abstract:
Provided are a ballast water treatment device and treatment method with which it is possible to supply, in accordance with the quality of raw water taken in for ballast water, an appropriate amount of an oxidant required for ensuring an adequate concentration of the oxidant to sterilize living organisms in the raw water, even after a long period of time has elapsed from when the supply of the oxidant to the raw water was stopped. In the treatment device, a storage means (23) stores: a first correspondence relationship of the light absorption of the raw water and the concentration of dissolved organic carbon in the raw water; and a second correspondence relationship of the concentration of the dissolved organic carbon and a required residual oxidant concentration required, as a residual oxidant concentration at the point in time when a prescribed amount of time has elapsed since the oxidant was supplied, in order to sterilize the living organisms in the raw water and to suppress the repopulation of living organisms in the water stored in the ballast tank. On the basis of the correspondence relationships, a calculation means (24) derives the required residual oxidant concentration corresponding to the light absorption of the raw water as measured by a light absorption meter 21, and calculates the amount of oxidant required to be supplied using the required residual oxidant concentration as a control target value. A control means (25) controls an oxidant supply device 5 in accordance with the calculation.
