Abstract:
Disclosed is a banknote type determination device for use by visually impaired persons in distinguishing types of banknotes in circulation, which is both highly portable and capable of easily distinguishing between types of banknotes. Folded rectangular members (10a, 10b) are connected upon one longitudinal end, and the other longitudinal end can be opened and closed, configuring a banknote retaining unit (2A) such that banknotes are inserted therebetween, a transverse position establishment means (22) is disposed upon one transverse side of the banknote retaining unit (2A), a longitudinal position establishment means (20) is disposed upon the connected longitudinal side, a determination configuration (3A) that forms a contour in a stair step shape upon the other transverse side so as to partially match, within a prescribed range by banknote type along the major axis, the position and orientation of one transverse end of a banknote, when overlaid thereon and when the position of the other transverse edge of the banknote is established. In a state wherein a banknote is inserted into the banknote retaining unit (2A) and held in place in contact with the transverse position establishment means (22) and the longitudinal position establishment means (20), the determination of the type of banknote is made by sensing with fingertips the state of protrusion of the transverse end edge of the banknote upon the determination configuration (3A).
