Title:
BASE ELECTRODE OF A DC-HEATED METALLURGICAL VESSEL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1995/027084
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The invention relates to a base electrode of a d.c.-heated metallurgical vessel, especially for making a ferrous alloy, having a metal jacket coated with fireproof material. In order to ensure the widest possible electric contact and thus reliable current transfer between the melt and the electrode device in the base of the vessel with a power supply line independent of the thermal load on the fireproof outer coating, the invention proposes that the base (22) facing the inside of the vessel and arranged beneath the fireproof side-wall (12) of the metallurgical vessel (10) be made of an electrically conductive fireproof material, that the periphery of the electrically conductive base (22) be surrounded by metal plates (25), that the individual metal plates (25) be connected to current rods (31) led out of the furnace vessel (10) through the metal jacket (11), and that the plates (25), including the current rods (31) be separated from the metal jacket (11) by electrical insulation (32).
