Title:
BASE HINGED HYDRAULIC POLES & MASTS
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2008/149376
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Base hinged hydraulic pole and mast is a simple economical invention in reducing the high mast/ poles cost and maintenance hazards in the field of external lighting of streets, play grounds, complexes, CCTV, flag hoisting. The pole is made in two sections, the base and upper pole hinged at base and locked by anti-vendal lock wherein the entire height of the pole can attain horizontal position with the help of hinge pin connecting base and top of the pole. Maintenance is carried out at ground level and again with the hydrauhc ram the pole is put back to its vertical position by locking the anti-vendal lock. One hydraulic ram and a small mobile manual operated hydraulic unit can service as many poie as one needs.

Description:

BASE HINGED HYDRAULIC POLES & MASTS

This invention is related to external lighting of streets, Play grounds, complexes, CCTV, Flag hoisting and ariels.

All Poles and high masts involve working ' at high levels for erection, wiring, fitting ail mountings, light source Le-. Tubes, bulbs etc.

This work requires services of Hydra (crane mounted vehicle) resulting in following drawbacks

• Hiring hydra is very costly

> 3-4 Persons are required to provide the service

• Crane mounted vehicle obstructs the traffic as long as the required work . is not cpmpleted.

There do ' exist High Masts and Poles with mobile crown in which case the work can be carried out at ground level. Every such pole / mast is provided a winch which requires electric power to operate it resulting in following drawbacks.

• Cost of winch on each Pole/Mast adds substantially to the cost of Pole/Mast β Cost of electric power to operate the winch.

All above drawbacks are overcome by the present solution. On each Pole/Mast provision is made to install Hydraulic Ram temporarily Io carry oυl erection and maintenance woi k at the ground level. The Pole/Mast is in two parts. The base and the upper portion of the pole/mast. A small mobile hydraulic unit operated manually activates the ram and upper portion cf the Pole/Mast is brought to horizontal position to. carry out all work in comfortable body zone i.e, between knees and shoulders.

With the heip of one hydraulic ram manually operated unit and with the help of one man can service as many poles/masts as required. The Traffic is never obstructed because the poie/mast can be tilted on median itself (along the road divider). .

• Object of invention

Erection and maintenance of Pole & Mast to be economical and convenient.

The pole/mast comprising of fixed base with hinge arrangement is formed in channel section fabricated out of plates. The channel section of the base could be of any other shape. TrTe upper portion of the Pole/Mast is welded to channel section which slides over the base channel section and rests en stopper prov.-deα on bas3 hinged channel section. Hinge pin connects the top channel portion with the base. Hings pin has a slotted hoie to allow top portion to be moved upwards to clear the stopper before tilting. To keep the pole in vertical position Anti-vandal lock is provided. This is a bolt with round cross section but it could be square or of any other cross-section.

Brief description of the Drawings:

Fig. 1 sheet 1 of 3 illustrates the general arrangement of the Pole/Mast. The top portion of the Pole/Mast is lock with Base Hinged channel by Anti-vandal Lock. The Ram (R) and portable hydraulic unit are not parts of the Poie/Mαst but aie used for erecting and maintenance.

Sheet 2 of 3 refers tc

Fig 2 Anti-vandal lock- This keeps the pole/mast in vertical position.

Fig 3 Hinge pin - this is the pin over which top portion of the pole swings to take horizontal position Fig δ . Ram top holding pin - This pin secures the hydraulic Ram (R in Fig 1) in top holding bkt (F fig 1) provided on top channel (E of fig 1) Fig 5 Ram bottom holding pin-This pin secures the hydraulic ram (R in fig 1) in bottom holdinq bracket (G in fig 1) provided on base channel (A in fig 1)

To assist with understanding the invention, reference wι ! i now be made to the accompanying drawings which show one example of the invention

c Detailed description of preferred embodiments

Referring to fig 1 The top channel (E) to which pole/mast is welded slides over base channel (A) and rests on stopper (B). Slotted holes on Top and Base channels are provided to engage hinge pin (D). Anti-vandal lock (C) is used to lock Top portion of the pole/ mast with the base channel. Holding brackets (F) on Top :hannei and (G) on Base channel are provided to fit the hydraulic ram on the 3θle/mast when required. Manually operated small mobile hydraulic unit (M) is used :o activate the hydraulic ram (R).

• Erection and maintenance at site A) Erection ι) Base is fixed on grouted anchor bolts ιι) The Top portion of the pole/mast is fitted to the base by sliding the top channel (ξ fig 1) over the base cnannei , A fig 1; and made to rest on the stopper B (figl). Hinge pin D is put to connect top cnannei with base channel (Hing pin Fig 3 sheet 2 of 3). in) Anti-vandal lock (C fig 3) is locked connecting Top channel (E fig 1) with base channel (A fig 1). [Anti-vandal lock fig 2 sheet 2 of 3] iv) Hydraulic ram (R fig 1) is fitted with Top and Bottom holding bkts (F & 6 Fig
