Disclosed in the present application are a base station software maintenance method and system based on a multicast technology. The method comprises: a service platform queries in a preset base station information database according to a software maintenance request, and determines base stations on which software maintenance needs to be performed; the service platform generates a first message according to information of the base stations on which software maintenance needs to be performed, and sends the first message to a server; after receiving information indicating that verification by the server is successful, the service platform sends a software maintenance package to the server; the server forwards a second message updated according to the first message, to the base stations by means of a network forwarding apparatus, and the base stations determine whether to join in a multicast group according to content of the second message; and the server transmits the software maintenance package in the multicast group in a multicast manner, and the base stations joining in the multicast group receive the software maintenance package.
