A mechanism for setting a user device with a longer DRX cycle is disclosed. One embodiment of the present invention pertains to a base station having a communication control unit for controlling wireless communication with a user device and a DRX control unit for controlling discontinuous reception (DRX) by the user device, wherein the DRX control unit manages a system frame number (SFN), a sub-frame number, and a hyper SFN (HSFN) for counting the number of times the SFN has cycled in the wireless communication, and sets the user device with an extended DRX (eDRX) having a reception period designated using the HSFN.
