Abstract:
According to a battery balancing device and method of the present invention, a relay assembly is controlled so that a plurality of serially connected battery cells are converted into parallel battery cells, and thus the voltage of an individual battery cell is detected. Therefore, a separate charging device is used so that supplementary charging is performed for a low-charged battery cell in which a voltage charge state compared to a rated voltage is poor, and when an overcharged battery cell compared to the rated voltage exists, the overcharged battery cell is connected in parallel to the low-charged battery, which is not being supplementarily charged so as to resolve overcharging, and thus damage to the battery cell is prevented, and uncharging of the battery cell is prevented so that the battery use time can be increased with a maximum charge capacity.
