Disclosed are a battery cell and a method for manufacturing same. The battery cell of the present invention includes an electrode assembly and a pouch unit that surrounds and accommodates the electrode assembly, the pouch unit including an inner layer, an outer layer, and a metal layer disposed between the inner layer and the outer layer, wherein the battery cell may include: a battery cell body provided with the electrode assembly and an accommodation portion of the pouch unit, in which the electrode assembly is accommodated; electrode leads protruding from the battery cell body; a first battery cell sealing portion formed along a portion of the perimeter of the battery cell body and provided with parts of a pair of first pouch sealing portions, in which the parts of the pair of first pouch sealing portions extend from the accommodation portion and have the inner layer facing and coupled thereto with the electrode leads therebetween; and a second battery cell sealing portion formed along the other portion of the perimeter of the battery cell body and provided with the other parts of the pair of first pouch sealing portions and a pair of second pouch sealing portions extending from the other parts of the pair of first pouch sealing portions and having the metal layer facing and coupled thereto.
