Disclosed is a battery cooling apparatus which can efficiently cool a battery at the time of quickly charging the battery. The battery cooling apparatus (1) cools the in-vehicle battery (100) in a refrigeration cycle (20). The battery (100) has a plurality of battery packs (110) held in a case body (101), and the battery packs (110) are cooled by means of heat transferred to the case body (101). At the time of quickly charging the battery (100) with external power, the case body (101) is cooled prior to starting the quick charging, and heat generated from the battery packs (110) just after starting the quick charging is absorbed by the case body (101).
