Abstract:
A battery management system and method for optimizing the internal resistance of a battery are disclosed. The battery management system according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a current measuring unit for measuring the charging current of the battery; a memory for storing a plurality of voltage-current characteristics profiles; and a control unit operably coupled to the current measuring unit and the memory, and determining a reference profile from the plurality of voltage-current characteristics profiles on the basis of the state of charge and the temperature of the battery. The reference profile includes a start point, an end point and a plurality of intermediate points positioned between the start point and the end point. The control unit: determines the internal resistance of the battery on the basis of the start point and the end point; sets, as a reference point, any one of the plurality of intermediate points; determines, on the basis of the reference point and the end point, a reference resistance that is smaller than the internal resistance; and determines, on the basis of the charging current, the internal resistance, the reference resistance and a predetermined upper limit charging current, an optimum resistance that is bigger than the internal resistance.
