Title:
BATTERY MODULE AND METHOD FOR COOLING THE BATTERY MODULE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2011/025222
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a battery module and to a method for cooling the battery module. The battery module includes a battery cell and cooling fins arranged adjacently to the battery cell. The cooling fins include a solid plate, and first and second tab portions extending from first and second edges of the solid plate, respectively. The first and second tab portions are configured to be bent perpendicularly with respect to the front surface of the battery cell. Thermal energy from the battery cell is dissipated through the cooling fins. The battery module also includes a first cooling manifold contacting the first tab portions of the cooling fins. The first cooling manifold has at least one flow channel that extends therethrough and receives fluid. The first cooling manifold conducts thermal energy from the cooling fins to fluid flowing through the first cooling manifold to cool the battery cell.
