Abstract:
The present invention provides a battery negative electrode active material that allows improvement of charging and discharging behaviors when iron or an iron compound is used for the negative electrode active material, and solves a problem of passivation of iron or the iron compound, thereby achieving a safe, inexpensive, and high-energy-density battery using an alkaline aqueous electrolytic solution. The present invention configures a battery negative electrode active material that: contains iron and one or more metallic elements other than iron, wherein at least one of the metallic elements other than iron is a metallic element that does not cause an oxidation-reduction reaction when the battery functions; and includes an inorganic/organic hybrid compound obtained by an organic polymer having a hydroxyl group being chemically bonded to a metallic oxide including at least one of the metallic elements that do not cause an oxidation-reduction reaction when the battery functions or to a derivative of the metallic oxide.
