A battery pack storage system for an automatic battery swapping station for an electric car comprises: a battery pack storage device (1) having first battery pack storage units (4) provided as multiple layers in a height direction; a battery pack swapping device (2) positioned at one side of the battery pack storage device in a first direction and having a second battery pack storage unit (5) capable of moving in the height direction to reach a height level at which an exchange of battery packs with the first battery pack storage unit can be performed. Battery packs are stored in different layers, and orientations in which the battery packs are stored and swapped remain consistent, thereby reducing an occupied space, increasing a quantity of battery packs to be stored, and reducing time required for a battery pack swapping operation. The invention has high battery swapping efficiency, and can be widely applied in various sites. Also disclosed is an automatic battery swapping station for an electric car employing the battery pack storage system.
