Abstract:
Provided is a compact and durable external case for housing a cylindrical battery. The external case comprises: a first case (10) having a curved section (12) that follows along an external circumferential surface of a cylindrical battery (1) and a first perpendicular wall (11) that is connected to an end edge of the curved section; and a second case (20) having a second perpendicular wall (21) connected to the first perpendicular wall. A fitting protrusion (15) and a fitting groove (25) for guiding the fitting protrusion are provided on opposing surfaces (11a, 21a) of the first and second perpendicular walls, respectively, and the fitting protrusion and the fitting groove are fitted together and secured by welding. An internal surface (11c) of the first perpendicular wall has a concave shape that follows along the surface of the cylindrical battery, and the thickness of the opposing surface (11a) at the tip end is larger than the thickness of the curved section. In this way, the thickness of the case can be kept small while obtaining a strong weld characteristic.
