Abstract:
[Problem] To provide a bearing device for a vehicle wheel, which can protect a magnetic encoder by improving sealing of a fitting part between a protection cover and an outer member and can improve the precision and reliability of rotation speed detection by suppressing widening of an air gap in consideration of deformation of the protection cover. [Solution] A protection cover (10) is formed of a nonmagnetic steel sheet through a press process, the protection cover (10) comprising: a cylindrical fitting part (10a) press-fitted to an inner surface (2d) of an end of the outer member (2); a disk-shaped shield part (10c) extending in radially inward directions from the fitting part (10a) with a diameter reduction part (10b) therebetween, a rotation speed sensor (16) being close to or in contact with a side of an inner surface of the shield part (10c); and a lower part (10e) for covering an inner-side end of an inner member together with a step part (10d). The shield part (10c) is inclined from an outer side only at a predetermined oblique angle, and under the same load state as the protection cover (10) is press-fitted to the outer member (2), the allowable limit of total run-out of the shield part (10c) being restricted to 0.15 mm or less.
