Abstract:
Provided is a bearing device for a vehicle wheel in which a cap does not adversely affect sensing performance of a speed sensor, and desired detection accuracy with respect to the detection limit of the speed sensor can be ensured to improve reliability. This bearing device for a vehicle wheel is provided with a magnetic encoder 14 fitted over an internal wheel 5, the magnetic encoder 14 and a speed sensor being made to face each other across an air gap via a cap 10 mounted on the end of an outer member 2, wherein: the cap 10 is provided with a cylindrical fitting part 10a press-fitted into the inner periphery of the end of the outer member 2, and a discoid shielding part 10c extending radially inward, the speed sensor being brought near or in contact with a side surface of the shielding part 10c; the cap 10 is formed from an austenitic stainless steel plate containing SUS 304 as the base, the C content being set to 0.030% by weight or less and the Ni content being set to 9.00-13.00% by weight; and the difference in magnetic flux density between a martensitically transformed portion and a non-martensitic portion is set to 1.4 mT or less.
