Abstract:
A bearing device for a wheel has an outer member (1) having double-row rolling surfaces (4) on its inner periphery and an inner member (2) having on its outer periphery a rolling surface (5) facing to each of the rolling surfaces (4), and double-row rolling bodies (3) are interposed between the opposite rolling surfaces (4, 5). The inner member (2) is composed of a hub ring (2A) having a flange (2a) for installing a wheel and an inner ring (2B) fitted on the outer periphery of the hub ring (2A). In the bearing device, the hub ring (2A) is provided with an element (A) having an engagement projection (27) that plastically flowed into and is engaged with the engagement recess (26) of the inner ring (2B). The element (A) is obtained by providing the engagement recess (26) at a portion that is in the circumferential direction of a bore surface of the inner ring (2B) and corresponds to an inboard side end of the hub ring (2A), and then causing a portion at which the hub ring (2A) and the inner ring (2B) are fitted together to be expanded in diameter. Alternatively, the hub ring (2A) is provided with an element (B) that prevents coming out of the inner ring (2B). The element (B) is obtained by providing an annular recess (11) in that portion of the outer periphery which is near the inboard side end of the hub ring (2A) and then plastically deforming that portion of the hub ring (2A) which is more on the inboard side than the annular recess (11) to the outer diameter side to cause the plastically deformed portion (19) to face a surface (10ba) which faces the inboard side of the inner ring (2B).
