Title:
BEARING DEVICE FOR WHEEL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2007/138738
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
A bearing device for a wheel, where sealing performance of a seal is improved to maintain bearing performance for a long period. A seal (8) on the outboard side is constructed from an annular seal plate (9) and a slinger (10) that have a substantially L-shaped cross-section and are arranged opposite to each other. The annular seal plate (9) is made up of a first metal core (11) press-fitted in the inner periphery at an end of an outer member (3) and of a first seal member (12) joined to the first metal core (11). The slinger (10) is press-fitted on the outer periphery of an inner ring (5). The seal member (12) has side lips (12a, 12b) insliding contact with the slinger (10). A backup seal (13) is provided on the outer side of the seal (8), and the backup seal (13) has a second metal core (14) press-fitted on the outer periphery at the end of the outer member (3) and also has a second seal member (15) integrally joined with an inner end section of the second metal core (14). The second seal member (15) inclines extending radially inward and integrally has a seal lip (15a) in sliding contact with the slinger (10). The construction prevents rain water, dust, etc. from directly entering into the seal (8) to improve its sealing performance.
