Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a bearing device for wheels (1), the bearing device being configured so as to reduce the amount of deformation of an opening of an outer member while reducing an increase in the weight of the entire device to a minimum, thereby preventing a reduction in a rolling fatigue life. A bearing device for wheels is provided with: an outer member (2) integrally having a vehicle body mounting flange (2e) and having double-row outer rolling surfaces (2c, 2d) integrally formed thereon; a hub ring (3) integrally having a wheel mounting flange (3b) to which a wheel is to be mounted and having an axially extending small-diameter stepped section (3a) formed thereon; and an inner member constituted by at least one inner ring (4) press-fitted over the small-diameter stepped section (3a), the inner member having formed thereon double-row inner rolling surfaces (3c, 4a) facing the double-row outer rolling surfaces (2c, 2d). A band-shaped section (2f) having a predetermined band width (w1) and protruding radially by a protrusion amount (p) is formed on at least a part of the wheel mounting flange (3b)-side outer peripheral portion of the opening (2b) of the outer member (2).
