Title:
BED MATTRESS WITH INTEGRATED SLAT BASE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2014/075789
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The subject of the invention is a bed mattress with an integrated slat base comprised of individual slats that are fixed to the bottom part of the bed mattress and together with the mattress form a bed. The bed mattress being the subject of the invention thus represents an integral solution where the slat base is part of the bed mattress. All the user needs to do is open the mattress and place it in the bed frame without having to buy an additional slat base. The bed mattress with integrated slat base being the subject of the invention, in which the slat base (2) is comprised of individual slats (3) inserted on the bottom side (1a), primarily into pockets (4) on bands (5) sewn into the mattress, i.e. through a hole (7) in the band (6), thereby forming a slab base (2) ensuring sufficient firmness of the mattress itself. In addition, because the slats (3) are inserted individually, the bed mattress (1) may be folded and vacuum packed, thus taking up minimum transport space.

Description:
BED MATTRESS WITH INTEGRATED SLAT BASE

The subject of the invention is a bed mattress with an integrated slat base comprised of individual slats that are fixed to the bottom part of the bed mattress and together with the mattress form a bed. The bed mattress under the invention thus represents an integral solution where the slat base is part of the bed mattress. All the user needs to do is to open the mattress and place it in the bed frame without having to buy an additional slat base. The invention is classified in class A47C 23/06 of the International Patent Classification.

The technical problem that is satisfactorily solved by the proposed design of the bed mattress with integrated slat base is the provision of an easy and integral solution for a bed in which there is no need to add a separate slat base when placing the mattress into the bed frame. In addition, the solution under the invention also provides an adequate structure of the bed mattress enabling easy transport.

When buying a bed, a slat base needs to be inserted before placing the mattress in the bed frame. Beds usually require a flexible slat base for support, providing additional comfort to the user during sleep and ensuring airiness of the mattress.

The flexible slat base provides additional comfort to the user during sleep and ensures airiness of the mattress, as well as enables minimum energy consumption for turning the mattress. It is also constructed in a simple and low-cost manner.

The slat base provides approximately 30% of additional comfort, as it bends together with the mattress, especially when the sleeper is sleeping on his side. Airing is necessary to prevent overheating of the mattress during sleep and to allow for the evaporation of moisture from the mattress.

There is a variety of bed mattresses and various slat bases available on the market, but these are usually sold individually. In most cases the bed mattress and slat base need to be purchased separately. Although existing patent documents offer solutions describing a combination of bed mattress and slat base, but these solutions do not solve the mentioned technical problem in its entirety.

For example, patent document FR 2 854 314 describes a solution in which individual slats are placed separately into the bed frame. These slats are attached by means of a system of holders on both ends of the slat and a band inserted along the length of the side frames. The insertion of the slats is time-consuming, and keeping them in the frame is unreliable.

A system of interconnected slats is described in patent document WO 94/14359. This solution does not foresee the connection of slats with the bed mattress, but the slat system is rather placed on or into the bed frame.

A bed mattress with integrated slat base solution is described in patent document WO 96/32039. The described solution foresees insertion of the slat base between two layers of mattress. These two layers are separated from one another by means of elastic inserts.

Patent documents EP 0 161 392 and DE 89 15 393.6 describe solutions in which the bed mattress is integrated with a slat base. In both solutions described, the bed mattress is integrated with a slat base as well as with longitudinal reinforcements in the form of tubular or square-shaped, profiled wooden elements or elements made of other materials, which give the entire structure a certain stiffness. Such solutions do not allow for easy folding of the bed mattress.

The bed mattress with integrated slat base being the subject of the invention, in which the slat base is comprised of individual slats inserted on the bottom side, primarily into pockets on bands sewn into the mattress, thereby forming a slab base ensuring sufficient firmness of the mattress itself. In addition, because the slats are inserted individually, the bed mattress may be folded and vacuum packed, thus taking up minimum transport space.

The invention will be described in more detail on the basis of an execution example and accompanying drawings, as follows:

Figure 1 Bed mattress with incorporated slat base Figure 2 Insertion of bed mattress being the subject of the invention into the bed frame

Figure 3 Bed mattress prepared for transport

Slat base 2 is attached to the bottom side of the bed mattress.

Slat base 2 is comprised of individual slats 3, which are inserted into pockets 4 on the bottom side la of bed mattress 1. The pockets 4 form part of two bands 5 that are attached along the length of both longer sides of bed mattress 1. On the bottom side la, primarily in the center of bottom side la of bed mattress 1, a band 6 with openings 7 is sewn into the mattress, and individual slats 3 are inserted into the openings 7. The bands 5,6 ensure the stable position of individual slats 3 and/or of the entire slat base 2 on the bottom side la of bed mattress 1. The ends of each slat 3 that is inserted into pocket 4 on band 5 do not come into contact with bed mattress 1 , because the slat is enclosed by pocket 4 on all sides. Likewise the wooden slats 3 do not come into contact with the frame 8 during the insertion of bed mattress 1 into the bed frame 8. The protection of slats 3 with pockets 4 and band 6 prevents any squeaking that could be caused by the slat base 2 rubbing against the bed frame 8.

The bed mattress 1 with integrated slat base being the subject of the invention is, for transport purposes, folded as shown in Figure 3. It may also be vacuumed in order to reduce its size. The slats 3 of the slat base 2 may be adjusted to suit any type of mattress to which they are attached. The slat base may be adapted to every mattress, as the number of slats, thickness and material of slats may be changed according to the type of bed.
