Description:
BELT CONFIGURATION WITH STRETCHING ELEMENT TO PREVENT LEAKAGE IN STOMA BAGS

Technical Field

The invention relates to a belt configuration suitable for use of individuals who need to use a stoma bag for various reasons, including stretching element to prevent leakage occurring around the stoma bag during use.

State of The Art

Ostomy means the anastomosis of a hollow organ to the body surface. The place anastomosed to the body surface is also called stoma. In the field of general surgery, stoma is created most frequently by intestines. A bag called stoma bag is also coupled to the related region to collect the resulting stools over the stoma, which is formed by removing a portion of the intestines which is cut due to cancer and similar reasons outwards from the umbilicus for a certain period of time. The mouth portion of the stoma bags is used by bonding it with an adhesive tape to surround the stoma. However particularly the umbilical region, which is the region where the stoma is formed, can cause leaks when the umbilical region folds during movement, particularly in patients with excess weight or subumbilical adipose tissue. Further, although the places where the stoma bags are attached are supported with a strip and adhesive in present applications, leaks become inevitable at the edges of the stoma, particularly in locations where the subumbilical adipose tissue is cambered and the umbilicus folds.

One of the patents with solutions such as bonding in the literature is the application numbered TR201721664. In the related application, an assembly aiming to collect waste from the stoma in an integral way with the stoma bag and by using a binding surface with adhesive feature is mentioned. Since the related assembly is integral with the stoma bag, it doesn’t allow re-use and can cause difficulties in use due to its large surface. Apart from these, it can be costly due to the detailed production process. As a result, it was required to make an improvement in the relevant technical field due to the negativities described above and because of the insufficiency of existing solutions on the subject.

Object of The Invention

The present invention relates to a belt configuration that meets the above-mentioned requirements, eliminates all disadvantages, and brings some additional advantages.

The primary object of the invention is to obtain belt configuration that includes a stretching element that allows to flatten the surface of the skin region where the stoma is present in order to seal the stomas particularly where the subcutaneous adipose tissue around the stoma can’t form a flat surface or that is opened on the skin folds.

An object of the invention is to provide a homogeneous tissue surface where the skin surface is flattened, owing to the stretching element it has and with the pressure created by the belt. The flattened skin surface obtained prevents the adhesive surfaces of the stoma bag from folding and thus sealing can be achieved as the adherence continues.

Another object of the invention is to ensure that it can be used in accordance with all kinds of stoma bags since it is not integral with the stoma bag.

In order to fulfill the objects described above, suitable for use by individuals who need to use stoma bag for various reasons; a belt configuration containing a stretching element with cavity to surround the stoma, a belt that allows said stretching element to be fixed in the stoma region and the skin surface to be stretched and flattened, at least one opening formed at both ends of said belt and protrusions (40) formed on the stretching element, allowing the connection of the stretching element with the belt through said openings has been developed.

Detailed Description of The Invention

In this detailed description, the belt configuration of the invention and preferred configurations thereof are described only for a better understanding of the subject and in a way that have no limiting effect.

Figure-1 presents an exploded view of the belt configuration. The belt configuration of the invention, in its most basic form, is a belt configuration comprising a stretching element (30) containing cavity to surround the stoma (20), a belt (50) allowing to fix said stretching element (30) in the stoma region and to flatten the skin surface (10) by stretching, at least one opening (60) formed at both ends of said belt (50) and protrusions (40) formed on the stretching element (30), allowing the connection of the stretching element (30) with the belt (50) through said openings (60). As can be seen in Figure-1, the stretching element (30) is placed on the stoma so that it also surrounds the stoma region owing to the cavity present therein. The stretching element (30) is preferably annular and made of iron. The surface of the stretching element (30) to be used in contact with the human skin is preferably covered with a non-irritating material for the skin. There are also at least two protrusions (40) on the stretching element (30). The relevant protrusions (40) provide the connection with the belt (50) and help the stretching element (30) to remain fixed, to make the required pressure to prevent leakage. Said protrusions (40) are preferably positioned on opposite sides of the stretching element (30). It is preferred that said projection (40) is in the form of a hook. The belt (50) preferably has a flexible structure and is inserted into the protrusions (40) owing to the openings (60) present at both ends by being passed around the waist region. In this way, the stretching element (30) makes the skin surface (10) stretched and smooth with the pressure it exerts due to the pulling of the belt (50) from both sides, allowing the stoma bag and stoma bag strip (70) to be fully seated. Figure-2 presents a front view of the belt configuration in use. Figure-3 presents a side view of the belt configuration in use.

Figure-4 presents an exploded view of another preferred alternative of the belt configuration. In this preferred configuration of the invention, there is an auxiliary stretching element (80) that can be positioned behind the stretching element (30) to support the stretching process. Said auxiliary stretching element (80) has an hollow structure to make the stoma accessible. It is preferably in the form of a ring larger in diameter than the diameter of the stretching element (30). It is preferably made of iron and covered on the outside with non-irritating material for the skin. Figure-5 presents a front view of the preferred said alternative of the belt configuration in use.
