Abstract:
[PROBLEMS] An engine starting device capable of reliably starting an engine by an electric motor by using belt drive even after the car is parked for a long time in a cold district etc. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A pulley (8) for an alternator-cum-motor (10), a crank pulley (2), and a pulley (6) for a compressor (7) for an air conditioner are connected in series by an endless ribbed accessory drive belt (9). To apply a tensile force to the accessory drive belt (9), an auto-tensioner (14) is provided between the pulley (8) and the pulley (6), and idle pulley (15) is provided between the pulley (6) and the crank pulley (2). Further, a belt section (9’), or that section of the accessory drive belt (9) whose inner surface faces upward, is covered with a belt cover (16) between the pulley (8) for the alternator-cum-motor (10) and the crank pulley (2).
