Title:
BICYCLE HANDLEBAR WITH REMOVABLE AND ADJUSTABLE AEROBAR
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2006050030
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A handlebar for a bicycle (10) has first (34) and second (36) laterally extending portions disposed outboard of a central attachment portion (30). Each of the first and second laterally extending portions (34, 36) is preferably winged-like in configuration to provide reduced air resistance. The first laterally extending portion includes an aerobar clamping mechanism (90), and the second laterally extending portion (90) includes a second aerobar clamping mechanism (92). Each aerobar clamping mechanism includes a tapered receiving sleeve (124, 125) having an axis that is generally parallel to a travel axis (T) of the handlebar. A collet (160, 162) having a major axis that extends in a plane generally parallel to the direction of travel (T) of the bicycle is receivable within the receiving sleeve (124, 125). The collet (160, 162) includes a plurality of axially extending slots (176) that permits the diameter of the collet to be varied. The collets (160, 162) include an aerobar receiving slot having a major axis that is generally co-linear with the axis of the collet, and is provided for receiving an aerobar (14, 16). An axial mover member can be coupled to the collet (160, 162), for axially moving the collet within the aerobar receiving sleeve (124, 125). Axial movement of the collet (160, 162) within the aerobar receiving sleeve serves to tighten and increase the grip of the collet (160. 162) upon the aerobar.
