Description:
BILATERAL GRINDING MACHINE WITH DRIVES ABOVE THE GLASS LINE DESCRIPTION Bilateral grinding machines for glass panes which simultaneously grind panes with parallel profiles are known.

Such bilateral grinding machines have a series of grinding wheels located on a fixed part of the grinding machine whilst the other part is located on a movable part. The variation of the movable part relative to the fixed part determines the width of the pane to be ground. The movable assembly of the grinding machine must be actuated by a transmission that determines its motion to adapt the width of the grinding wheel to the width of the machine.

In known machines, the transmission that causes this variation to be effected is located below the plane of the pane and therefore a series of protections is necessary to shelter it from the spraying water necessary to cool the grinding wheels. In spite of the protections, the infiltration of water mixed with glass dust and the consequent damages to the moving organs cannot be prevented.

The present innovation has the task of overcoming this drawback by providing a bilateral grinding machine for glass panes, wherein all mechanical organs and electrical parts are located above the grinding area in order to be safely outside any water infiltration which because of the presence of the grinding wheels and of its natural function is saturated with glass dust and hence is abrasive for any moving organ.

The accompanying drawings show, in Figure 1, a section of known bilateral grinding machine with all drives located below the work plane. The glass plane (1) is situated above the driving organs (2).

Figures 2 and 3 show two views of a bilateral grinding machine according to the innovation with all drives (3) located in the upper part above the glass line (1).

The system (4) for the transmission of the travelling beam and the housing (5) for electrical cables and water pipes are located well above the plane of the pane to be ground and thus do not come in contact with the water saturated with glass dust. With the realisation of the grinding machine according to the present invention, failures and costly servicing of the mechanical moving organs are avoided.
