Abstract:
In the disclosed biomass hydrothermal decomposition device, a solid biomass feedstock (11) is supplied from one side of a main device (42) and hot compressed water (15) is supplied from the other side, bringing the two in contact with each other head on and hydrothermally decomposing the biomass feedstock (11). While hot-water-soluble components are dissolved in the hot water and the hot compressed water is discharged to the outside from the one side of the main device (42) as hot-water drainage (16), biomass solids (17) (hot-water-insoluble components) are discharged to the outside from the other side of the main device. The disclosed biomass hydrothermal decomposition device has an active reaction region (A) and a temperature reduction region (B). The active reaction region (A), in which hydrothermal decomposition occurs, extends from the other side of the main device (42) to the one side thereof. The hot compressed water (15) is maintained at a supply temperature (for example 200°C) for a prescribed amount of time in the active reaction region (A). In the temperature reduction region (B), immediately after the active reaction region (A), the temperature is rapidly reduced (for example from 200°C to 140°C) to a temperature (for example 140°C) at which hot-water-soluble components do not over-dissolve.
