Abstract:
The biometric authentication device of the present invention has a biometric information acquisition unit for generating an input biometric image which represents biometric information which has been input by a user; a storage unit for storing, for each of a plurality of registered users who have been registered beforehand, a first group feature value for each of a plurality of groups that have been defined for registered biometric images which represent registered biometric information; and a processing unit. The processing unit extracts a local feature value which represents geometric features of the input biometric information contained in the block for each of a plurality of blocks into which the input biometric image has been partitioned, classifies the plurality of blocks into a plurality of groups such that each group of blocks has similar local feature values, extracts a second group feature value which represents features of the input biometric information for each of the plurality of groups, calculates a degree of difference between each of the plurality of units of registered biometric information and the input biometric information on the basis of the first group feature value and the second group feature value, selects a predetermined number of units of registered biometric information in order from units having a lower degree of difference, and matches the input biometric information with the selected registered biometric information.
