A board card position detection method and apparatus. The board card position detection method comprises the following steps: photographing an image of a position to be detected, and obtaining a grey-scale map of the image (S110); performing edge detection processing on the grey-scale map to obtain an edge map of the grey-scale map, obtaining a morphological image, comprising several communication regions, of the edge map, and calculating the areas of the communication regions in the morphological image (S120); obtaining the maximum value of the areas, and determining whether the maximum value is greater than or equal to a preset area threshold (S130); and if the determined result is yes, obtaining center coordinates of a communication region corresponding to the maximum value, and using the center coordinates as center coordinates of a board card (S140). By means of the board card position detection method and apparatus, an AOI system is capable of determining a board card position by using a software method, thereby implementing entry detection of a board card on an assembly line, implementing precise positioning for the board card, and reducing costs.
