A bobbin case replacing apparatus (1) which is provided with carrying means (4) equipped with an indexing actuator (9) for carrying a replacing bobbin case (3) to the position of replacement; a chuck (5) for chucking the bobbin case (3); and chuck shifting means (6) provided with a swinging actuator (12) for rotating the chuck (5) toward a rotating shuttle (2) or the position of replacement, and a parallel shifting actuator (13) for moving the chuck (5) back and forth, and wherein the parallel shifting actuator (13) is horizontally disposed in the longitudinal direction of the sewing machine in parallel with the rotating axis of the rotating shuttle (2), and the indexing actuator (9) and the swinging actuator (12) are horizontally disposed in the lateral direction of the sewing machine. As a result, the bobbin case replacing apparatus (1) is made compact, reduced in the vertical dimension, and can be mounted on a sewing machine whose rotating shuttle (2) faces forward.
