Provided is a highly reliable box opening device capable of reliably opening a box without causing damage to or deformation of a corrugated cardboard sheet. The box opening device is provided with: a first suction cup (21); a second suction cup (22); and a first holding unit movement mechanism (30). The first suction cup (21) holds a first side surface (T1) representing one of two adjacent surfaces of a folded corrugated cardboard sheet (S). The second suction cup (22) holds a second side surface (T2) representing the other of the two adjacent surfaces of the corrugated cardboard sheet (S). The first holding unit movement mechanism (30) changes the attitude of the first suction cup (21) with respect to the second suction cup (22) to make the corrugated cardboard sheet open. The first holding unit movement mechanism (30) has a link mechanism (31). The link mechanism (31) supports the first suction cup (21) so that the first suction cup (21) rotates so as to draw an arc about a rotating center axis R overlapping an imaginary line (IL) extending along a boundary line (A) between the first side surface (T1) and the second side surface (T2) of the corrugated cardboard sheet (S).
