Abstract:
Provided are a braiding machine for enabling a braid structure to be manufactured without reversing the front and back of a flat foil thread, which is necessary for achieving practical use of a flexible waveguide, and a method for manufacturing a flexible waveguide. A braiding machine 1 includes: a plurality of cylindrical bobbins 30 around which flat foil threads 20 are wound such that the flat foil threads 20 are not reversed; a plurality of carriers 10 to which the bobbins 30 are rotatably mounted, and which unreel the flat foil threads 20 from the bobbins 30; a core material supply mechanism 70 which supplies a core material 60 within a flexible waveguide 51; a waveguide retrieval mechanism 80 which retrieves the flexible waveguide 51 that has been formed; and a carrier operation determination mechanism 90 which determines the operation of the carriers 10 such that the number of crosspoints formed between each individual flat foil thread 20 and the other flat foil thread is always three or more at an expanded part where the flat foil threads 20 do not yet constitute a braided configuration.
