The invention relates to a brake lining (12a, 12b) for a disk brake (1) for a motor vehicle, in particular for a utility vehicle, comprising a lining back plate (6, 60) which comprises a lining side (6a) with frictional material (5, 50) and an application side (6b) opposite the lining side (6a) which has a structure (20) with a plurality of recesses (21b, 21'b, 21''b) with elevations (22, 22', 22'') arranged therein, the structure (20) of the lining side (6a) comprises structural elements (21, 29 - 37) which vary in their shape and size.
