A braking system, comprising: a brake pedal (1), a brake cylinder (2), standard brakes, energy storage brakes and a controller (3). The brake pedal (1) is connected to the brake cylinder (2), and the inside of the brake cylinder (2) is provided with a hydraulic oil. Each energy storage brake is provided with a brake assembly housing (A), an energy storage device pressure plate assembly (B), an energy storage device (C), an oil valve control assembly (F) and a power generator (G). The oil valve control assemblies (F), the standard brakes and the brake pedal (1) are respectively electrically connected to the controller (3). The present invention also relates to a braking method for the braking system. The braking system provides a power generation capability by means of kinetic energy of brake discs, performs effective energy conversion, and increases electrical energy utilisation. The controller obtains vehicle driving state information and brake pedal displacement information, and provides different braking solutions for different states. The energy storage brakes simultaneously perform braking and energy storing operations, and in combination with the standard brakes, provide effective braking control, and increase braking performance and braking efficiency.
