BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION A. Technical field

[0001] The present invention generally relates to a breathing device. More specifically, this invention relates to a breathing device configured to operate as an anesthetic mask or a training device to maintain normal breathing condition during medical surgical procedure.

B. Description of related art

[0002] Generally, patients undergoing surgery need to inhale anesthetic gas for sedating the patient for the duration of surgical procedure. Medical procedure such as pediatric surgery is a subspecialty of surgery involving the surgery of fetuses, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, which also requires administration of anesthesia prior, or during the surgery itself. Anesthesiologists often have difficulty in fitting anesthesia mask to the patients, particularly children because of fear or timid nature. Parents may also be extremely anxious seeing their children scared during surgery, causing an even bigger psychological burden for family and friends when the child is being operated on. If a proper breathing condition is not maintained on administrating anesthesia, there is a larger chance of experiencing laryngospasms, bronchospasms, vomiting, and the like. Hence, there is a need for a device that allows children to breathe properly to undergo smooth surgical procedure.

[0003] Conventional device involves attaching a toy to the anesthetic mask. However, attaching a toy may only distract the child for a shorter duration. Some known conventional method involves providing an exercise to breath with the anesthetic mask, few hours before surgery. However, maintaining normal breathing conditions with few minutes of teaching throughout the duration of medical procedure is impossible.

[0004] Accordingly, there exists a need for an improved device that allows the children to stay comfortable and to breathe properly during the duration of surgical procedure. Further, the device need to provide a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing appearance and enables see-through of the mouth and nose of the wearer. Further, the device need to facilitate the wearer to train for maintaining normal breathing condition during the surgery. Further, the device need to reduce or eliminate anxiety, fears, and other negative emotions before the surgery of the child or patient.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] This summary is provided to introduce a selection of concepts in a simplified form that are further disclosed in the detailed description of the invention. This summary is not intended to identify key or essential inventive concepts of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended for determining the scope of the claimed subject matter.

[0006] The present invention provides a breathing device that allows a wearer or patient to train for maintaining normal breathing condition on inhaling anesthetics. Further, the device is configured to operate as an anesthetic mask by coupling to an existing ventilation device.

[0007] The breathing device comprises a concave shell or a mask body, a central port with a plurality of support members, an inflatable bag and a connector. The concave shell comprises a transparent window of predefined size, which is disposed on an outer surface of the shell. The concave shell further comprises an inner surface defining an enclosed space for substantially covering the wearer's mouth and nose. The central port with a plurality of support members is fixed on the outer surface of the shell. The connector comprises a first end configured to couple with the central port in the shell and a second end configured to removably attach with the inflatable bag. [0008] In one embodiment, the concave shell and the inflatable bag are printed with caricatures. In one embodiment, the concave shell is made of plastic material. In one embodiment, the concave shell is made of rubber material. In one embodiment, the concave shell is made of medically safe materials. In one embodiment, the inflatable bag is made of foil material. During operation of the breathing device as an anesthetic mask, the concave shell with the central port having a plurality of support members is placed over the patient's face, covering both nose and mouth. The central port is configured to detachably couple with a tubing attachment of the existing ventilation device and allows inhalation of anesthetic agents.

[0009] During operation of the breathing device as the training device for utilizing anesthetic mask, the central port fixed to the concave shell, is coupled to the connector. The connector is configured to provide an air way between the concave shell and the inflatable balloon. When the patient breaths in, a negative pressure is created in the inflatable balloon, and when the patient breaths out, a positive pressure is created to blow up the balloon, thereby allows the wearer to play by breathing and at the same time provides training.

[00010] The foregoing summary of the present invention with the preferred embodiments should not be construed to limit the scope of the invention. It should be understood and obvious to one skilled in the art that the embodiments of the invention thus described may be further modified without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
