Abstract:
Provided is a buckling restraining brace which excels in vibrational energy absorbing capacity, which is such that degradation of properties is avoided, and furthermore, which can be applied to medium-rise and high-rise steel structures and reinforced concrete structures. A buckling restraining brace (10) mounted on a frame of a building structure is provided with a shaft member (12) and a restraining member (14) which restrains the buckling of the shaft member (12). This shaft member (12) is composed of a pair of rod-like steel members (16a, 16b), and a rod-like steel member (18) which has a cross-sectional area smaller than that of the pair of rod-like steel members (16a, 16b) and is threadably engaged with the pair of rod-like steel members (16a, 16b) in such a way as to be held therebetween. Axial tensile force and compressive force in the shaft member (12) are absorbed by elasto-plastic deformation of the rod-like steel member (18).
