Abstract:
In this bumper member joining method, hollow bumper stays (20) and a bumper reinforcer (10) comprising rearward inclined walls (14) with a hole (16) therein are prepared. The bumper stays (20) are then inserted in the holes (16) in the bumper reinforcer (10) and made to pass through the rearward inclined walls (14), rubber (30) is inserted into the bumper stays (20), the rubber (30) is compressed in the direction of the axis (L) of the bumper stays (20) so that said bumper stays (20) expand outward from the interior, and at least the parts of the bumper stays (20) that have been inserted in the holes (16) thereby expand and deform so as to be joined by crimping to the rearward inclined walls (14). Configuring in this manner provides a bumper member joining method that is not subject to limitations regarding shape or materials, that reduces costs, and that makes it possible to easily join the bumper stays (20) and the bumper reinforcer (10) by crimping.
