Description:
DESCRIPTION

BUTTSTOCK ASSEMBLY WHOSE LENGTH CAN BE ADJUSTED, HAVING A ROTATING MECHANISM AND FIT LOCK Technical Field

The present invention is related to a buttstock assembly whose length can be adjusted having a rotating mechanism and fit lock for firearms especially rifles.

Prior Art

Nowadays the user aims and shoots by ensuring that the firearm is stable by supporting the buttstock with his/her body during a shooting action carried out with fire arms such as rfiles, infantry rfiles or air rifles. In fire arms the distance between the trigger mechanism which performs the firing and the end part of the buttstock supported by the body (trigger-buttstock distance, pull lenght) is very important in order to carry out a comfortable shooting by the user. The trigger- buttstock distance which is usually a fixed distance in fire arms, is not possible to be changed for different users. This situation prevents the fire arm to be used erfonomically for users having different body types. For this reason applications wherein the trigger-buttstock distance in fire arms can be adjusted according to the user has been developed in the technique.

In the United States patent document numbered US7793453 subject to the known state of the art a buttstock assembly wherein the buttstock length and height can be adjusted is described. In said document an inner cylinder fixed to the body of the rifle, an outer cylinder which can move backwards and forward on the inner cylinder placed around the inner cylinder and a buttstock body which is inserted to the other end of the outer cylinder is described. While the outer cylinder moves backwards and forwards, the buttstock body also moves forward and backwards which is connected to the outer cylinder and thus the trigger-buttstock length can be adjusted. Moreover by means of a lock system it is enabled for the buttstock to stay fixed at the distance it has been adjusted to.

In the patent document numbered PL208013 subject to the known state of the art, a buttstock assembly whose buttstock length can be adjusted is described. In said system, the movement of the buttstock is released via a latch located under the buttstock and when the length is adjusted the locking is again enabled.

A system wherein the buttstock length can be adjusted has been described in the patent document numbered TWM410210 subject to the known state of the art. In said system, by menas of the latch located under the buttstock, the buttstock is released from its locked state, and after the buttstock enght is adjusted locking is again carried out and it is enabled for the length of the distance to stay fixed. In said documents or other applications similar to the technique the lengths of the buttstock assemblies, cannot be adjusted to the desired precision. Together with this the assemblies whose lengths have been adjusted, the lock systems that are used to fix the buttstock at the desired length are not suitable resistant. Especially pins that are used in locking systems which lock from one point only are not durable enough against high intensity impacts and heavy conditions and thus are broken or impaired easily. As it has been foreseen that firearms are to be used under heavy conditions, it is aimed to provide a buttstock assembly which is high precision and is increased in resistence, which is stronger and durable against difficult usage conditions.

Brief description of the Invention

The main aim of this invention is to provide a buttstock assembly where the buttstock length can be adjusted via body tabs and tube tabs in fire arms. Another aim of this invention is to provide a buttstock assembly which has high durability under all usage conditions, whose breaking down risk has been minimized and which can be locked from plural points via body tables and tube tabs. Another aim of this invention is to provide a buttstock assembly which is easily adjusted in usage and length.

Another aim of this invention is to provide a buttstock assembly where the locking is carried out and the buttstock distance can be adjusted after the latch is released and where the latch does not have to be continued to be pressed after the buttstock lathe is pressed once in order to be able to adjust the buttstock distance.

The buttstock assembly (1) subject to the invention comprises a lever (15), wherein one end is connected with a lock (11) and the other end is inserted to the lever latch pin channel (19) and connected to the latch (6) via a lever latch pin

(18) .

The buttstock assembly (1) subject to the invention comprises a lever slot (23) into which the lever pin (16) enters passing through the lever pin channel (17) located on the latch (6) so that the lever (15) is fixed on the body (2).

The buttstock assembly (1) subject to the invention comprises a lever motion slot (24) into which the lever latch pin (18) is inserted which passes through the lever latch pin channel (19) located on the latch (6) in order for the lever (15) to be fixed on the latch (6). The buttstock assembly (1) subject to the invention has been fixed to the body of the firearm via a buttstock tube (3). The buttstock body (2) is local ted at the rear section of the rifle such that it houses the buttstock dube (3) (Figure 1). In order for the buttstock length to be adjusted in the buttstock assembly, the buttstock body (2) is shifted laterally on the buttstock tube (3) (Figure 2).

The body tabs (4) located inside the body (2) in buttstock assemblies (1) subject to the invention extend from front to the rear inside the body. Spaces between the body tabs (4) are present (Figure 5 and 6). The tube tabs (5) located on the tube (3) are inserted into the spaces between the body tabs (4). By this means it is enabled for the buttstock body (2) to be locked to the buttstock tube (3) from many points and the movement from the fron to the rear is prevented (Figure 4, 7 and 8). In order to be able to adjust the buttstock length in a buttstock assembly (1), or in other words in order to be able to slide the buttstock tube (3) on the buttstock body (2) the buttstock body tabs (4) need to be released from the tube tabs (5). In order to be able to reach this aim, the buttstock body (2) needs to be rotated with the condition that the buttstock tube (3) and firearm stays fixed at the same time. When the buttstock body (2) is rotated, the body tabs (4) and the tube tabs (5) shall be disconnected and the forward and backward movement of the body (2) on the tube (3) shall be enabled (Figure 5).

A lock (11) is present which prevents the involuntary rotation of the body (2) in the buttstock assembly (1). The lock (11) is located near the tabs (4) of the buttstock body (2). When the buttstock assembly (1) is at a locked position, the lock (11) is positioned such that it protrudes out of the lock housing (12) (Figure 9). At this point, the tube tabs (5) inserted into the spaces between the body tabs (4) are in contact with the lock (11). When the body (2) wants to be rotated, as the tube tabs (5) will be in contact with the lock (11), the lock will establish a set that prevents the tube tabs (11) to exit out of the body tabs (4) and as a result it will nt be possible for the body (2) to be rotated around the tube (3). For this reason in order for the body (2) to be rotated the lock (11) needs to be opened, or in other words the lock (11) has to take a position which shall allow the tube tabs (5) to extend out of the spaces between the body tabs (4). This position change of the lock is provided via the latch (6).

The latch (6) is located on the buttstock body (2) and below the body tabs (4). In order for the latch (6) to be fixed on the body (2), a latch recess (7) is present below the body tabs (4) and over the body (2) (Figure 7). The only opening between the latch recess (6) and the inner surface of the body (2) is the lock housing (12) which enables the lock (11) to move into the body (2) (Figure 6). The lock housing (12) bears the lock (11).

There are three channels on the latch (6), namely the latch pin channel, the lever pin channel (17) and the lever latch pin channel (19). The latch (6) is fixed to the body (2) by means of the latch pin (13) passing through the latch pin channel (14) and the lever pin (16) passing through the lever pin channel (17). As these pins (13 and 16) are fixed to the body (2) it is not possible for them to move under any condition. The latch pin channel (14) and the lever pin channel (17) extend at a perpendicular direction. By this means the the downward and upward motion of the latch (6) is enabled (Figure 9 and 10).

Spring slots (9) are present on the latch (6). Springs (8) are placed on these slots (9). The other ends of the springs (8) are fitted into the body spring slots (10) located on the body (2). By this means the involuntary movements of the spring horizontally is prevented (Figure 9 and 10).

A lever (15) is present on the latch (6) which is fixed on one end to the latch (6) and on the other end to the lock (11). The lever (15) has been fixed to the latch (6) which enters the lever latch pin channel (19) via the lever latch pin (18). The lever latch pin (18) fixes the lever (15) to the latch (6) by passing through the lever motion slot (24) located on the lever (15). Moreover it has been enabled for the lever (15) to be fixed to the body (2) by means of the lever pin (16) that passes through the lever slot (23) which is located in the mid section of the lever (15). In other words the lever pin (16) passes through the two slots (23 and 24) located on the lever (15) and through the lever slot (23) and the lever pin (16) at the same time also passes through the lever pin channel (17) located on the latch (6) and fixes both the lever (15) to the body (2) and the body slots (22). The lever latch pin (18) enters throught the lever motion slot (24) which is the other slot on the lever (15). The lever latch pin (18) passes through the lever latch pin channel (19) located on the latch (6) at the same time and fixes the lever (15) to the latch (6). The other end of the lever (15) has been fixed to the lock (11) via the lock channel (21) attached to the lever protrusion (20) (Figure 9 and 10).

When the buttstock assembly (1) is at a locked state, the body tabs (4) and the tube tabs (5) are fitted into each other thus locking is provided from many points and it is not possible for the buttstock body (2) to move forward and backwards (Figure 4 and 9). Again when the buttstock assembly (1) is at a locked position, the latch (6) is at a downward position due to the pushing force created by the springs (8) (Figure 9). In this position the lever (15) is at a horizontal position and this keeps the lock (11) at an upward position, the lock (11) protrudes out of the lock housing (12) and protrudes into the body (2). In such a case the lock (11) creates a barricade in front of the tube tabs (5) and does not allow the tube tabs (5) and the body tabs (4) to disconnect from each other by turning the body (2). When the length of the buttstock wants to be adjusted in the buttstock assembly (1), it is necessary to press on the latch such that a force is exerted at an upward direction to the latch (6). When the latch (6) is pressed, the force exerted by the springs (8) is overcome and the springs (8) are tightened and the latch (6) moves upwards. By means of the upward motion of the latch (6) due to the lever latch pin (18) which has one end fixed to the lever (15) the lever moves upward together with the latch (6). However due to the lever pin (16) which fixes the lever (15) to the body (2) passing through the lever slot (23) located in the mid section of the lever (15), the mid section of the lever (15) cannot go up at a perpendicular direction. For this reason, the lever (15) moves radially around the lever pin (16) thus forcing the end of the lever protrusion (20) of the lever (15) which is connected to the lock (1 1) to move downward. The downwoard movement of the end having the lever protrusion (20) pulls the lock (11) down. Thus the lock (11) goes down from the lock housing (12) which protrudes into the body (2) and is no longer an obstacle at the front section of the tube tabs (5) (Figure 10). In the preferred embodiment of the invention, in order to ensure that the rotating motion of the lever (15) is carried out easily, and in order to emsure that the system does not face any obstructions or jamming, the lever (15) performs a pushing motion towards the right together with the rotating motion. In order to reach this aim, the lever latch pin channel (19) and the lock channel (21) are placed such that they extend at a horizontal direction. When the lever (15) is performing the rotational motion, the lever protrusions (20) which pass through the lock channel (21) move toward the right. Hence, the lever protrusions (20) located on the lever (15) and the lever motion slot (24) also create a pushing move towards the right together with the lever (15) (Figure 10). While the user keeps pressing on the latch (6) the lock (11) moves down and as it is no longer an obstacle in front of the tube tabs (4) thus the tube tabs (5) are disconnected from each other (Figure 5). After it is enabled for the tabs (4 and 5) to be disconnected by rotating the buttstock body (2) the latch (6) can be released. Because after the tabs (4 and 5) are disconnected from each other and the tube tabs (5) pass onto the other side of the lock (11) the forward and backward movement of the body (2) on the tube (3) can now be carrsed out independently from the lock (11).

After the user adjusts the length of the buttstock assembly (1) so that the body (2) moves forward and backward on the tube (3), the buttstock is turned in the reverse direction of the body (2) or in other words at a clockwise direction and the locking is performed.

When the user turns the body (2) at a counter clockwise ditection, this time the tube tabs (5) come in contact with the lock (11), however as the upper surface of the lock (11) is angled such that they are inclined downward to the other direction where the body tabs are located, the tube tabs (5) press the lock (11) down and shall pass over the lock thus providing the locking motion. A plurality of buttstock housings (25) is present on the body (2) of the buttstock assembly (1) subject to the invention. The buttstock housings (25) are closed off by the buttstock base (26). The buttstock base (26) can be dismantled and a cleaning kit and toolset can be stored into the buttstock housings (25). The buttstock assembly (1) subject to the imvention enables the buttstock length to be precisely adjusted. The distances between the body tabs (4) and the thicknesses of the tube tabs (5) in the buttstock assembly (1) can be differentiated and as a result the adjustment precision of the buttstock assembly can be increased.

Moreover a buttstock assembly (1) is provided which is durable in all usage conditions and the breakdown risks are minimized as the resilience is increased due to the buttstock being able to be locked from a plurality of points. In order to be able to adjust the distance of the buttstock, after the buttstock latch is pressed and the body (2) is rotated, the system is easy to use, as the latch (6) no longer has to be pressed and after the latch is relased it is still possible to adjust the buttstock distance and possible to perform relocking.
