Title:
C-SHAPED CROSS SECTION TUBULAR OPHTHALMIC IMPLANT FOR REDUCTION OF INTRAOCULAR PRESSURE AND METHOD OF USE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2002032343
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
A C-shaped cross-section latex tube 20 implant for reduction of intraocular pressure. A proximal end 34 serves as a conduit for aqueous humor to bypass angle structures in the eye. A distal end 36 serves as a nidus for the patient's cells and forms a capsule wherein inflation of the capsule forms a tube for conduction of aqueous humor into the extracellular space under the conjunctiva. An anchor comprises a split end of the tube wherein the end of the tube is split multiple times such as a bifurcation 42. The method comprises the steps of implanting the distal portion of the cylindrical tube 32 under the conjunctiva and anchoring the distal end 36 of the cylindrical tube 32 to the sclera at the limbus inserting the proximal, 34 intact end of the tube 32 into the anterior chamber through a needle track 48 ligating the proximal end 34 to prevent hypotony and allowing time for a capsule to grow around the tube 32.
