A cable current discharge capacity detection method, and an electronic device. The method comprises: after an electronic device and a power adapter are connected via a charging cable, when a charging current of a rechargeable battery of the electronic device is a first charging current, acquiring a first input voltage and a first input current of the electronic device, wherein the first charging current is greater than a pre-set multiple of a charging current limit value of the rechargeable battery (201); adjusting the charging current of the rechargeable battery from the first charging current to a second charging current (202); when the charging current of the rechargeable battery is the second charging current, acquiring a second input voltage and a second input current of the electronic device (203); and calculating the resistance of the charging cable according to the first input voltage, the first input current, the second input voltage and the second input current, and determining a current flow of the charging cable according to the calculated resistance (204). In this way, the current discharge capacity of a charging cable (103) can be quickly determined without changing the structure of an electronic device (101) or a cable, and the compatibility is good.
