A caliper brake device for a vehicle is provided with a brake shoe which is in sliding contact with the disc and which applies a frictional force to the disc, a caliper body which is supported by a vehicle body, and an actuator which presses the brake shoe against the disc. The actuator is provided with an elastic film which is affixed to the caliper body, a drive pressure chamber which is defined by the elastic film and which is supplied with fluid, a valve which conducts the fluid into the drive pressure chamber, and a piston which is disposed between the elastic film and the brake shoe. When the fluid is supplied to the drive pressure chamber and the elastic film is swollen to the brake shoe side, the piston causes the brake shoe to be in sliding contact with the disc. When the brake is applied, the valve conducts the fluid into the drive pressure chamber, and when the brake is released, the valve limits the discharge of the fluid from the drive pressure chamber.
