Description:
CAMPING SYSTEM AND PIVOT JOINT THEREFOR

TECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to camping systems, and to pivot joints therefore. BACKGROUND ART

[0002] Camping is a popular recreational activity in which people (campers) spend time outdoors, often sleeping in a tent. Camping enables people to get away from cities, and be in touch with nature, without be restricted to typical holiday accommodation options, such as hotels and resorts.

[0003] Similarly, motorcycles are often also used recreationally and enable riders to experience the outdoors in a way that is not possible in a car or bus. Riding a motorcycle is often associated with freedom and the open road.

[0004] Several attempts have been made to combine motorcycles and camping. For example, motorcycle trailers exist, which can be used to transport camping equipment behind the motorcycle. However, such trailers are generally bulky, and restrict the use of the motorcycle.

[0005] Furthermore tents may be transported on parcel racks of motorcycles. However, such tents are also bulky and may restrict the movement of the rider. Furthermore, bulky tents and equipment generally affect the aerodynamics, stability and safety of the motorcycle.

[0006] Personal watercraft (PWC), such as jet-skis, are also often used for outdoor recreation. However, similar problems exist with the transport of camping equipment, such as tents. Such problems are, however, further exaggerated due to instability of such craft in the water when compared with land-based vehicles.

[0007] Accordingly, there is clearly a need for an improved camping system.

[0008] It will be clearly understood that, if a prior art publication is referred to herein, this reference does not constitute an admission that the publication forms part of the common general knowledge in the art in Australia or in any other country.

DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS

[0066] Figure 1 illustrates a perspective view of a camping system 100, according to an embodiment of the present invention. Figure 2 illustrates a side view of the camping system 100, and Figure 3 illustrates an end view of the camping system. The camping system 100 is illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 in a transport configuration, and as such, only a protective case 105 of the system 100 is visible.

[0067] The camping system 100 is specifically configured for use on a motorcycle, and enables riders of motorcycles to have more freedom in relation to where they stop and stay during road trips. In particular, the camping system 100 provides comfort away from home, which is both convenient and budget friendly.

[0068] Furthermore, the camping system 100 enables camping in even the most rugged terrain, where a 4WD vehicle cannot go, and without requiring expensive or inconvenient transport methods, such as helicopter access or hiking.

[0069] The protective case 105 includes a base 110, having a floor and sidewalls, and first and second lids 115a, 115b hingeably attached to the base 110 by barrel hinges (not illustrated) and locks 120. The locks 120 prevents unauthorised opening of the case 105, and prevents the case from inadvertently opening while riding. When used, the lids 115 are folded upwards from the base 110, and are independently operable.

[0070] The case includes a tent portion, accessible by the first lid 115a, and a storage portion, accessible by the second lid. A divider separates the tent portion and the storage portion, to prevent objects in the storage portion from damaging the tent in the tent portion.

[0071] A rubber seal (not illustrated) is provided between the base 110 and the lids 115, to prevent water and dust from entering the case 105. This is particularly advantageous, as it is anticipated that the system 100 will be used in a wide variety of weather conditions, including rain, and in off-road areas which are particularly dusty.

[0072] The case 105 has a concave front 125, which is configured to be placed adjacent to a back of the rider of the motorcycle. The concave front 125 helps distribute a force if the case should impact the rider, and thus prevents injury. Furthermore, in some embodiments the concave front 125 may function as a back support to the rider.

[0073] As best illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the case 105 includes first and second accessory compartments 130a, 130b, which are shielded from the tent portion and storage portions. The accessory compartments 130a, 130b are modular, and may be fitted with a power module, or a storage door, as described in further detail below, or any other suitable component.

[0074] As best illustrated in Figure 2, front portions of the case 105 are angled, to deflect air upwards when in use, and as best illustrated in Figure 3, sidewalls 135 of the case 105 are tapered. As such, the case is both aerodynamic, and has limited numbers of sharp edges, helping prevent injury to pedestrians or the rider in case of an accident.

[0075] Figure 4 illustrates an accessory door 400, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The accessory door 400 may be used to provide an externally accessible accessory chamber in the system 100 by attachment to one of the accessory compartments 130a, 130b.

[0076] The accessory door 400 includes a lock 405, and a hinge (not shown). The hinge is configured to be attached to one of the accessory compartments 130a by fasteners, such as screws or bolts, such that the door pivots from the case 105.

[0077] Figure 5 illustrates a power module 500, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The power module 500 includes a battery (not illustrated), an inverter (not illustrated) coupled to the battery, and a control panel 505, coupled to the battery and inverter.

[0078] The control panel 505 includes a battery level indicator 510, for indicating a charge level of the battery, and a plurality of power outputs 515. The power outputs include a 240V AC power output, a DC 12V power output, and a plurality of Universal Serial Bus (USB) 5V charging points. The skilled addressee will, however, readily appreciate that any suitable number and type of power outputs may be provided. [0079] The power module 500 may be water resistant, or may be provided with a cover. For example, a door, similar to the door 400, may be provided as a cover to protect the power module when not in use.

[0080] Figure 6 illustrates a front perspective view of the camping system 100, according to an embodiment of the present invention. Figure 7 illustrates a rear exploded view of the camping system 100, and Figure 8 illustrates a cutaway perspective view of the camping system. The camping system 100 is illustrated in Figures 6 to 8 in a transport configuration,

[0081] The camping system 100 includes a tent 600, which has substantially vertical sidewalls 605, and a roof 610. The sidewalls include a door 615, and windows 620, which provides access to the tent 600.

[0082] As best illustrated in Figures 7 and 8, the tent 600 includes a motorcycle cut-out 625, enabling the tent 600 to be erected at least partly around the motorcycle. Furthermore, an external awning 630 is provided to shelter the motorcycle.

[0083] A base 635 of the tent 600 is fixed to the ground using tent pegs 640, to prevent the tent from moving or blowing away in case of a storm. However, the skilled addressee will readily appreciate that other means may be introduced to provide stability to the tent 600.

[0084] Inside the tent, the cut out portion 625 includes a plurality of motorcycle access windows, through which the motorcycle may be accessed. This enables the user to access saddlebags, for example, or the storage component described above, without leaving the tent 600.

[0085] Figure 9 illustrates framework 900 of the case 105, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The framework forms a base of the case 105, and is used to attach the case to the motorcycle.

[0086] The framework 900 is formed of 18mm box section steel, and comprises a base portion 905, and an inclined portion 910. Each of the base and inclined portions 905, 910 comprises a substantially rectangular portion, with a central reinforcement bar extending across a width of the framework. The inclined portion 910 is coupled to the base portion 905 such that the inclined portion 920 extends upwards from the base portion 910 at an angle of approximately 20 degrees.

[0087] The framework is also tapered in a longitudinal direction, such that it is wider at the base portion 905 than at the inclined portion 910.

[0088] Fig 10 illustrates a universal bracket 1000 of the camping system 100, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The universal bracket 1000 is used to attach the case 105 to the motorcycle, using the framework 900.

[0089] The universal bracket 1000 includes a plurality of support portions 1005, which correspond to horizontal bars of the framework 900. The support portions comprise angled brackets, which not only provide vertical support for the framework 900 (and thus system 100), but also lateral support.

[0090] The universal bracket 1000 is coupled to the motorcycle using first and second angular pivot elements, as outlined below.

[0091] Figure 11 illustrates an angular pivot element 1100, according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0092] The angular pivot element 1100 includes a fixing plate 1105, for fixing to the motorcycle, a support bracket 1110, for coupling to the universal bracket 1000, and first and second pivot joints 1115, 1120 therebetween.

[0093] The first and second pivot joints 1115, 1120 enable the user to pivot the entire camping system 100 relative to the motorcycle. As there are two pivot joints 1115, 1120, the camping system can essentially be moved backwards and forwards with reference to the motorcycle, while still being substantially level.

[0094] The first pivot joint 1115 is a push button joint, such that the joint is unlocked (pivotal) when the button is depressed, and locked otherwise. The push button joint is particularly suited to one-handed operation, as it allows the user to use their thumbs to press the button, while controlling movement of the joint with the rest of their hand.

[0095] The second pivot joint 1120 is a twist-lock joint, in which the joint is unlocked (pivotal) when the twist lock is in a first position, and locked when the pivot lock joint is in a second position.

[0096] According to certain embodiments, the support bracket 1110 is configured such that it can be inserted into the first pivot joint 1115 in a rotated configuration. In particular, the first pivot joint 1115 defines a square-shaped channel, and the support bracket 1110 defines a square- shaped arm, such that the arm is received in the channel when rotated at any multiple of 90 degrees. This provides additional flexibility in how the joint may be configured.

[0097] Figure 12 illustrates an exploded view of the first pivot joint 1115, according to an embodiment of the present invention.

[0098] The pivot joint 1115 includes a backing cap 1205, which is about 55mm in diameter, is made from 3mm thick aluminium. The backing cap 1205 includes an internal thread 1205a, which is about 4mm high, and a spring bed 1205b, which is about 2mm deep.

[0099] The spring bed 1205b is for holding a locking spring 1210 into place. The locking spring is about 101b/5kg rating, and is used to force the segments against each other in a locked position.

[00100] The pivot joint 1115 further includes a centre plate 1215, which is also about 55mm in diameter, from which one of the arms 1215a of the joint extends. The centre plate 1215 includes a central aperture 1215b, which is about 15mm in diameter, and a plurality of segments 1215c equally spaced around one side of the plate 1215. Each segment 1215c is about 20 degrees wide, and separated form each other by about 20 degrees. The segments 1215c are about 4mm high.

[00101] The pivot joint 1115 includes a midsection plate 1220 is similar to the centre plate 1215, but is about 14mm wide. Segments 1220a of the midsection plate 1220 releasably engage with segments of the centre plate 1215 to lock/unlock the joint.

[00102] Finally, the pivot joint includes a locking plate 1225, having segments 1225a on one side, and a spring groove, for holding the spring 1210 on the other side. A central shaft 1225c extends outwards from the locking plate 1225, and acts as the button of the pivot joint. In particular, when the button is pushed, the spring is compressed, and the segments are able to disengage from each other.

[00103] The shaft 1225c may include an aperture for receiving a locking pin. The locking pin may prevent the shaft (button) from being depressed, thus preventing accidental unlocking of the joint. This is particularly advantageous when transporting the tenting system, and it is undesirable for the pivot joint 1115 to inadvertently move.

[00104] As the segments are separated by about 20 degrees, and are each about 20 degrees wide, the joint 1115 defines a plurality of predefined configurations, each about 40 degrees apart. This simplifies the process of configuring the joint 1115, as the user does not need to fine tune the angle of the joint.

[00105] Furthermore, as the segments are wide (20 degrees), and have vertical surfaces, they are very strong as the rotational force is applied against edges of the segments.

[00106] The skilled addressee will readily appreciate that a pivot joint may be provided with plates that directly engage with each other (segments on one plate engage with segments on another plate), or through a central plate (segments on one plate engage with a central plate, which in turn engages with another plate).

[00107] Similarly, the pivot joint may include any combination of backing caps, inserts, bearings and housings, to prevent the joint from damage, to enable smooth movement, and to provide an aesthetically pleasing joint. Furthermore, the plate may be moulded directly into a component, such as a frame, a case, or the like.

[00108] Figure 13 illustrates a base plate 1300, Figures 14 and 15 illustrate first and second supports 1400, 1500, and Figure 16 illustrates a telescopic pole 1600 that extends between the base plate 1300 and a support 1400, 1500.

[00109] When the tent 600 is erected, it may be desirable to separate the motorcycle from the tent system 100. In such case, base plates 1300, poles 1600 and supports 1400, 1500 may be used to support the framework 900, and thus the case 105

[00110] The base plate 1300 is configured to be supported on the ground, and includes a channel 1305 for receiving the pole 1600. The supports 1400, 1500 include channels corresponding to structure of the framework 900, to directly support the framework 900. The pole 1600 is telescopic, so that it can be adjusted to a height of the motorcycle, and includes two portions for compact storage.

[00111] In alternative embodiments, the supports 1400 and/or the supports 1500 are integrally formed with, or permanently installed onto the framework. This reduces the number of components required to be transported, and simplifies installation of the pole 1600 to the system.

[00112] Figure 17 illustrates a side view of a camping system 1700, according to an embodiment of the present invention. Figure 18 illustrates a top view of the camping system 1700, and Figure 19 illustrates an internal cut-away view of the camping system 1700, illustrating a floor. [00113] The camping system is for use on water in relation to watercraft, such as a jet-ski. In particular, the system may be used for camping on water, which is particular important when land based camping is not possible. In national parks, or other protected areas, it may not be permitted to camp on land, and in other areas, the land may simply not be suitable for camping due to trees, the nature of the land (e.g. wetlands), or the presence of dangerous animals on the land.

[00114] The camping system 1700 includes an inflatable frame portion 1705, and panels 1710 that extend therebetween to define a shelter. The inflatable frame portion 1705 defines a frame of the camping system 1700 when inflated, and can be folded flat when deflated.

[00115] The panels 1710 comprise flyscreen-like material, that enables airflow through the system, while preventing insects from gaining access to the system 1700. At least a portion of the panels 1710 are tear away panels, releasable attached using Velcro, or similar material, to enable the user to escape from the tent system 1700 therethrough in case of emergency.

[00116] A plurality of safety lights 1715are positioned along an upper portion of the inflatable frame 1705, such that the camping system 1700 is visible at night. The safety lights may be coupled to battery either in the tent or on the watercraft (e.g. in a case similar to the case 105). The safety lights are described in further detail below.

[00117] As best illustrated with reference to Figure 18, the camping system is asymmetrical. In particular, the camping system includes a straight side, which functions as a mooring portion, against which the watercraft is moored. The mooring portion includes a plurality of docking latches 1720, with which the watercraft can be attached using, for example, rope.

[00118] Finally, as best illustrated in Figure 19, a base of the camping system 1700 comprises an inflatable bed portion 1725. The inflatable bed portion 1725 is both soft, for sleeping (much like an inflatable mattress), and provide buoyancy to the camping system 1700.

[00119] The camping system 1700 is particularly suited for one person, however, as described below, camping systems may be configured for two, or multiple persons.

[00120] Figure 20 illustrates a top view of a camping system 2000 according to an alternative embodiment of the present invention. The camping system is similar to the camping system 1700, in that it is configured to be used on water, but is for two persons.

[00121] The camping system 200 includes inflatable frame portion 2005, and panels 2010 that extend therebetween to define a dome shaped shelter, and safety lights 2015.

[00122] The camping system includes first and second mooring points in the form of cut-outs 2020, for receiving the watercraft. In use, the watercraft, such as jet-skis are moored at least partly in the cut out and are tied to a central anchor point 2025 and/or outer anchor points 2030.

[00123] Figure 21 illustrates a light of the camping system 2000. The light includes a light emitting diode (LED) 2105, and reflective channels 2110, to direct light in multiple directions. The LED 2105 and the channels 2110 are coupled to the framework by a support plate 2115.

[00124] Figure 22 illustrates the anchor point 2030 of the camping system 2000. The anchor point cover includes a base portion 2205, and a cover portion 2210, which releasably engages with the base portion 2205. The base portion 2205 is positioned on an inside of the camping system 2000 and the cover portion is positioned on an outside of the camping system, and bolted together such that bolts extend through a cover (shell) of the camping system. The anchor point 2030 distributes force evenly across a significant portion of the cover (shell) of the camping system, which reduces the likelihood of tears in the shell.

[00125] Figure 23 illustrates a collapsible anchor point of the system 2000. The anchor point includes a cross bollard 2305, a release spring 2310, a top plate 2315, a cover 2320 and a base 2325.

[00126] The cross bollard 2305 provides a tie-off point to the camping system which is provided in a storage configuration, in which the cross bollard 2305 is depressed into the top plate, and an active configuration, in which the cross bollard 2305 extends outwardly from a top of the top plate.

[00127] The cross bollard 2305 includes locking teeth 2305a, which engage with locking channels 2315a of the top plate 2315. The locking channels 2315a are at different heights, and as such, enable the cross bollard 2305 to extend between the storage configuration and the active configuration through selection of a channel 2315a. As the channels 2315a are placed around a circumference of the top plate 2315, the channels 2315a are selected by depressing the cross bollard 2305 and rotating it.

[00128] Figure 24 illustrates a framework 2400 of the camping system of Figure 20. The framework is similar to the framework 900 of Figure 9, except that the instead of an inclined portion, the framework 2400 comprises a three dimensional framework. In particular, the framework comprises a plurality of box segments 2405, that extend to form a base 2410 in a first plane, and an upper portion 2415, that extends upwardly from the base 2410.

[00129] The skilled addressee will readily appreciate that the above camping systems may be modified to suit any type of watercraft, including powered and non-powered, personal and multi- person watercraft.

[00130] Figure 25 illustrates a tent support set 2500, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The tent support set 2500 includes a first tent support 2505, a second tent support 2510, a third tent support 2515, and a fourth tent support 2520, and may be used in association with a motorcycle camping system of the present invention.

[00131] The first tent support 2505 is a three piece telescopic pole, comprising an outer pole member 2505a, an intermediate pole member 2505b, and an inner pole member 2505c. The inner pole member 2505c is located within the intermediate pole member 2505b, and the intermediate pole member 2505b is located within the outer pole member 2505a, such that the pole members 2505a-c can slide relative to each other to enable the first tent support 2505 to be telescopically adjusted to a desirable height.

[00132] The outer pole member 2505a, the intermediate pole member 2505b, and the inner pole member 2505c include apertures 2520 along sidewalls thereof, which enable the pole members to be locked relative to each other by a locking screw 2525. In particular, the locking screw extends between all three pole members, preventing movement of the pole members along a telescopic axis thereof.

[00133] The outer pole member 2505a may be about 22mm in width, the intermediate pole member 2505b about 20mm in width, and the inner pole member 2505c about 18mm in width.

[00134] An upper portion of the inner pole member 2505c includes a threaded tip 2530, to enable the first tent support 2505 to be coupled to the second tent support 2510 by a female threaded base portion thereof (not illustrated). This enables the second tent portion 2510 to be positioned directly about the first tent portion 2505 to form an elongate tent pole.

[00135] The second tent support 2505 includes an outer pole member 2510a and an inner pole member 2510b, wherein the inner pole member 2510b is able to slide relative to the outer pole member 2510 in a telescopic arrangement, similar to the first tent portion. The outer and inner pole members 2510a, 2510b also include apertures (not illustrated) for locking the members in place. [00136] The inner pole member 2510b includes a cylindrical elongate spike 2535 that extends from an upper portion of the inner pole member 2510b along a telescopic axis of the second tent support 2505. The spike 2535 is configured to extend through an eyelet of the tent, to support the tent there through. Furthermore, as the spike 2535 extends through the eyelet, rope may be used to support the elongate tent pole.

[00137] The outer pole member 2510a may be about 17mm in width, and the inner pole member 2510b about 15mm in width.

[00138] The third tent support 2515 includes an outer pole member 2515a and an inner pole member 2515b, wherein the inner pole member 2515b is able to slide relative to the outer pole member 2515 in a telescopic arrangement, similar to the first and second tent supports. The outer and inner pole members 2515a, 2515b also include apertures (not illustrated) for locking the members in place.

[00139] The outer pole member 2515a includes pressure clip studs 2535, at a lower end, for connecting to a base, as outlined below. Similarly, the inner pole member 2515b includes a threaded tip 2530, to enable the third tent support 2515 to be coupled to the fourth tent support 2520 by a female threaded base portion (not illustrated).

[00140] The outer pole member 2515a may be about 17mm in width, and the inner pole member 2515b about 15mm in width.

[00141] The fourth tent support 2520 comprises a pole member 2520a including a threaded base, for receiving the threaded tip of the third tent support 2515, and a threaded tip 2530, for connecting to a case of a camping system, and supporting same. In particular, the case may include corresponding threaded portions incorporated into a base thereof to enable such attachment. This enables the case to be supported off of the motorcycle, for example of the motorcycle is temporarily used elsewhere.

[00142] The pole member 2520a may be about 15mm in width.

[00143] The tent supports are advantageously telescopic to enable compact storage, which enables the supports to be transported in the case on the back of a motorcycle.

[00144] Figure 26 illustrates a base plate 2600, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The base plate 2600 is similar to the base plate 1300, and is configured to support the third tent support 2515 on the ground [00145] The base plate 2600 includes a central support pad 2605, and first and second side pads 2610 that fold outwards from the central support pad 2605 by a hinge 2615. Once folded out, the first and second side pads 2610 lie in the same plane as the central support pad 2605, and thus extend a support area provided by the base plate 2600.

[00146] The base plate 2600 further includes a channel 2620, for receiving the base of the third support member 2515. In particular, the pressure clip studs 2535 of the third support 2515 engage with apertures of the channel 2620, to retain the third support member 2515 to the base plate 2600.

[00147] The hinge 2615 may be locked in place to prevent the first and second side pads 2610 from moving relative to the central support pad 2605, enabling the central and side pads 2605, 2615 to function as a single base plate. In particular, first and second portions of the hinge may include shaped apertures, which align at a fully open state, through which a correspondingly shaped locking key is inserted to prevent movement of the hinge. The shaped apertures may be rectangular.

[00148] Figure 27 illustrates a side view of a case 2700, adapted for use on a personal watercraft (PWC), according to an embodiment of the present invention. Figure 28 illustrates a perspective view of the case 2700. The case 2700 is similar to the case 105, but is configured for a PWC rather than a motorcycle.

[00149] The case 2700 includes a front portion 2705, a central portion 2710 and a rear portion 2715. The front portion 2705 is refrigerated and is for storing food, drink and/or other perishables at lower temperature than ambient. The front portion 2705 may include insulated sidewalls, to prevent high ambient air temperatures from heating an inside of the front portion 2705.

[00150] The front portion includes a drainage bung, for enabling water or other liquid to be drained therefrom, and rubber seals around a lid 2720 thereof.

[00151] The central portion 2710 houses a refrigerant compressor for refrigerating the front portion, an air compressor, for inflating the inflatable tent, a battery, and a controller, as described in further detail below.

[00152] An accessory tray 2725 is located above the compressors, the tray 2725 comprising a plurality of compartments, suitably about 2x7cm in size. Pivot hinges 2730 allow for accessory trays to be lifted to access compressors or battery for maintenance or repair. [00153] The central portion 2710 includes an air vent, to allow heat to escape, and air to move around the compressor for cooling, and a lid 2735, for providing access to the central portion 2710.

[00154] The central portion 2710 further includes a control panel 2740, coupled to the controller, for controlling the battery and compressor. In particular, the control panel 2740 enables the compressor to be turned on (in forward or reverse mode to inflate or deflate), the temperature of the fridge to be set and displayed, and a pressure of the tent frame to be viewed.

[00155] The control panel 2740 may include plugs for USB, power, radio, etc. The control panel 2740 may be water resistant, or include a water resistant cover (not illustrated).

[00156] The rear portion 2715 is for storing the inflatable tent, and is angled downwards about 45 degrees off a plane of the front and central portions 2705, 2710. By being angled downwards, the rear portion 2715 is able to fit closely to the body of the PWC, which assists in providing stability and reducing air resistance.

[00157] The rear portion 2715, similar to the front portion, includes a drainage bung, for allowing drainage of water after tent is packed up. A lid 2745 of the rear portion includes an internal hydraulic strut 2750, to help open and close the rear portion. In particular, the strut 2750 may hold the lid 2745 open, and/or control the closing of the lid 2745 to prevent slamming.

[00158] The controller may be coupled to a current flow meter, for measuring a current in the water below or near the tent when in use. The controller is then configured to issue an alarm in case the current increases, which may indicate flash flooding, or another environmental event.

[00159] Similarly, the controller may monitor a pressure of the inflatable tent, and issue an alarm to warn user of deflation, e.g. based upon deflation rate or threshold pressure. This is particularly advantageous when the tent is used for sleeping, as it may allow the user to escape the tent, and potentially perform repairs before the tent is entirely deflated.

[00160] The case includes locks (not illustrated), much like the locks 120, to prevent unauthorised opening of the case, and to prevent the case from inadvertently opening while riding.

[00161] Finally, the case 2700 has a concave front 2755, which is configured to be placed adjacent to a back of the rider of the PWC. The concave front 2755 helps distribute a force if the case should impact the rider, and thus prevents injury. [00162] The camping system to be fitted to a various motorcycles, including touring, off-road and cruising motorcycles, agricultural motorcycles including ATVs, as well as watercraft, such as various PWC (jet-skis), because of adjustable brackets.

[00163] According to certain embodiments, the camping systems include a solar panel (or flexible solar mat) incorporated into a roof portion, or a case portion of the system, and coupled to a battery. The solar panel may be configured to charge the battery while on the motorcycle or watercraft (e.g. while being ridden or used), and or when being used as a tent.

[00164] The skilled addressee will appreciate that any type of battery may be used with the camping systems described above, including a 20AH-26AH deep cycle battery (e.g. gel) with bracket to prevent movement. Wet-cell and sealed lead-acid batteries may also be used.

[00165] According to certain embodiments, the tent and case are separable. This enables multiple tent designs fit into a single case, which decreases manufacturing costs, and provides increased flexibility.

[00166] According to certain embodiments, a compressor is provided in an accessory box of the system, for pumping up an inflatable mattress of the camping system, or a framework of the camping system.

[00167] In some embodiments, the battery is wired to alternator of the motorcycle or the watercraft. This enables the battery to be charged, even when the solar panel is not used, or in pool solar conditions.

[00168] According to certain embodiments, windows of the camping system are closable internally. This enables the user to seal the tent in case it starts raining, without needing to go outside.

[00169] While the above pivot joints has been described with reference to the camping system 100, the skilled addressee will readily appreciate that the joint may be used in other scenarios, including in foldable furniture, foldable frames, and brackets more generally.
