Abstract:
A camshaft comprises: an inner shaft; a pin provided to the inner shaft so as to extend in the radial direction; and an outer shaft which has a directional component extending along the axial direction, is provided with a guide groove at which the pin is movably exposed, and has the inner shaft contained therein so as to be movable in the axial direction. The camshaft is also provided with a cam piece disposed around the outer shaft so as to be rotatable relative to the outer shaft. The cam piece engages with the pin and rotates around the outer shaft as the pin moves in the axial direction. The camshaft is configured in such a manner that the inner shaft and the outer shaft are moved relative to each other in the axial direction of the outer shaft by a drive means. Also, the camshaft is configured in such a manner that the phase of the cam lobe of the cam piece is changed by moving the inner shaft in the axial direction relative to the outer shaft. In the camshaft, the guide groove of the outer shaft extends in the axial direction, and this enables the cam to have a large amount of phase change while a reduction in the rigidity of the outer shaft is minimized.
