CAP The object of the invention is a cap consisting of a ring which is fitted on and around the head, a visor-like shield being attached to the ring.
There are a great number of caps of this kind, known per se, of different models and shapes: advertisement caps, golf caps, etc. Common to all of them is that they provide a shield against the sun and prevent the rays of the sun from shining directly into the eyes of the user.
Publications GB 2 116 017 and GB 2 232 339, for example, disclose caps known per se which are made of soft, flexible and stretching cellular plastic. These caps are only for protection against the sun.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a new type of cap that has other functions than only protection against the sun. The cap according to the invention is characterised in that the ring partly or fully consists of a more than 2 cm thick protective ring made of cellular plastic, for example, which covers the forehead, the back of the head, and the temples against blows directed at the head. Thus, the invention provides a cap that works both as a protection against the sun and against blows. It should be noted that the cap is not a safety helmet to replace motorbike or bicycle helmets. The invention is a cap having properties that protect the head and it also functions as protection against the sun. This kind of cap is very popular among young people, golfers, etc. The cap is an advantageous advertising gift, for example.
People like wearing it if it is fashionable. It has also been discovered that only one out of every five cyclists wear helmets. Skaters and roller skaters very seldom wear helmets. The head is unprotected because the cyclist's helmet is perhaps not suitable for these hobbies. Although the cap according to the invention is not a helmet, it certainly protects one against minor scratches and bruises and, possibly, even against severe blows.
Various embodiments of the invention are presented in the dependent claims of this application.
In the following, the invention is described with the aid of an example and with reference to the appended drawing in which:
Fig. 1 shows a cap according to one embodiment, placed on the head, Fig. 2 shows a cap according to another embodiment, as viewed obliquely from behind, and Fig. 3 shows a cap according to a third embodiment, as viewed from the side.
The cap consists of ring a 1 which is fitted on and around the head, a visor-like shield 2 attached to the ring. Ring 1 consists of a protective ring made of thick cellular plastic which protects the forehead, the back of the head, and the temples against blows directed at the head. Both ring 1 and the shield are manufactured from one piece by expanding raw material in a mould shaped like the product. Because of its shape and the material, the cap is very light and, therefore, easy to use.
In Fig. 2, the front part consists of body part la in a U-shape, which together with back part lb and rubber bands 3 constitute the cap.
In Fig. 3, the cap is also provided with flaps 4 that protect the ears. This type of cap is mainly intended for winter sports.
