Abstract:
Carba-2-penem compounds represented by the following general formula: (FORMULA) (wherein R1 represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, an alkylthio group, an arylthio group or an acylaminoalkylthio group, R2 and R3 each represent an alkoxycarbonyl group, a cyano group or -COR1 (wherein R1 is the same as defined above), or R3 represents an alkyl or aryl group, and R4 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, an aryl group or an optionally protected amino group) and salts and esters thereof; and process for their preparation represented by the following scheme: (FORMULA) (wherein COOR represents a protected carboxyl group, and Z represents a phosphonio group or a phosphono group). These compounds have antibacterial and (Beta)-lactamase-inhibiting actions, and are utilized as medicines for humans and domestic animals.
