Abstract:
Provided are a carbon catalyst exhibiting both superior catalytic activity and superior durability, a cell electrode, and a cell. The carbon catalyst contains iron, exhibits a mass-reduction rate from 200°C to 1200°C of no more than 12.0 mass% measured by thermogravimetric analysis in a nitrogen atmosphere, and has a carbon structure which, when subjected to x-ray absorption fine structure analysis (XAFS) of the k-edge of the iron, exhibits (a) and/or (b): (a) the ratio of the normalised absorbance at 7130eV to the normalised absorbance at 7110eV is no lower than 7.0; (b) the ratio of the normalised absorbance at 7135eV to the normalised absorbance at 7110eV is no lower than 7.0.
