Abstract:
The technique disclosed therein provides a carbon detergent capable of easily removing, in a short time, carbonaceous residues produced in internal combustion engines. This carbon detergent is for use in cleaning away carbonaceous residues produced in internal combustion engines. The carbon detergent at least contains both an aqueous alkali solution having a pH of 13 or higher and a diethylene glycol monoalkyl ether (DGME) in which the alkyl group has three or more carbon atoms. The carbon detergent contains a surfactant so that, in cases when the carbon detergent is allowed to stand still at ordinary temperature, the aqueous alkali solution and the DGME are kept in a dispersed state for at least one day. The carbon detergent can easily remove carbonaceous residues in a short time, because unburnt oil matter adherent to the carbon matter contained in the carbonaceous residues can be dissolved in the DGME and the aqueous alkali solution can then be efficiently brought into contact with the carbon matter.
