Abstract:
These carbon nanofibers are produced by a gas-phase reaction of a carbon oxide-containing raw material gas using a metal oxide powder including a Co oxide as a catalyst. At least one selected from metal cobalt, a carbon-containing cobalt metal, and a cobalt-carbon compound is contained (encompassed) wrapped in the fibers. This carbon nanofiber production method has a step in which a mixed powder of Co oxide and Mg oxide is used as a catalyst, and carbon nanofibers are produced by a gas-phase reaction of a carbon oxide-containing raw material gas; and uses as the catalyst a mixed powder of CoO and MgO, obtained by hydrogen-reducing a mixed powder of Co3O4 and MgO using a reduction gas having a hydrogen concentration whereby metal cobalt is not generated.
