Abstract:
In the Raman spectrum of carbon nanotube (64), the Raman scattering intensity in the vicinity of 1580 cm-1 is the highest. Carbon nanotubes can be grown on the catalyst microparticles (63) of a substrate composed of conductive substrate (62) and, superimposed on its surface, catalyst microparticles (63). The catalyst microparticles (63) consist of cobalt oxide catalyst ultrafine particles. Electron emitting element (60) structured so as to apply voltage to apical end (64a) of such carbon nanotube (64) to thereby effect electron emission can realize lowering of driving voltage and attainment of a current value of such a magnitude that induces luminescence of commercially available phosphors for low-velocity electron beam. The electron emitting element (60) needs no gate, so that there can be realized simplification of the structure of plane emission elements equipped therewith and cost reduction thereof. The carbon material is not oxidized even in low-vacuum regions, so that there can be realized easing of panel making, and prolongation of operating life, as compared with those of light emitting elements making use of conventional electron emitting elements.
